USING THE COMPASS.
Welcome and thank you for your support dear readers!
Let’s start feng shuing with our tool ! The western compass is similar to the Luo Pan,as it is divided into 360 degrees .This is divided into eight directions and 24 sub-directions. Therefore,it would be advisable to purchase a compass that has its sub-divisions clearly marked.
North is zero. East is at 90 degrees, south is 180 degrees, west is 270 degrees, and north is 360 degrees. The main directions are North, south, east, and west. The secondary directions are northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest.
All directions are relative and not absolute. North in your house could be south to the house next door!
To ensure an accurate reading, remove any metal adornments that could influence the reading and make sure the compass is not placed near metal fittings, for example metal door frames,as they can distort the magnetic arrow. I will share a case study of how a metallic door frame could distort a luo pan’s reading!I was taking the house facing direction, using my Luo Pan, in a client’s house in Nilai,a couple of days ago. It was perplexing ,as 10 minutes flew by , and I was still struggling to figure why there was a difference of 5 degrees from the window to the main door ,which was just 4 feet in width. I asked Mr Poobalan,my client, if he had any metallic items fixed near the door, and he explained that the only metallic item at the entrance was the door frame! The door frame was made of metal ,and so were all the door frames in the house!
What a revelation;my first encounter with a metal door frame in our local housing estates. So,readers check your door frame first!
To determine the facing direction of your home, you must know the orientation of your home. The facing direction of the main door is normally the facing direction of your home. But in some cases this need not be the scenario. Stand facing the same side that the building faces, and align yourself with your back parallel to the facing side of the building. You must stand in the centre of the building and then take your readings.
Stand straight and hold the compass at waist level. If possible use a compass which has a ruler to ensure it is square to the direction you are taking. Wait until the arrow stops quivering. Rotate the compass dial until the red portion of the magnetic arrow aligns with north.
Read the compass grade at the index line. The grade that points opposite is the facing direction and the end that points to you is the sitting direction.
Take at least 3 different readings, all on the facing side;the farthest right, the farthest left and the centre of the building.
When there is a difference of reading;a rare occurrence, take the result from the CENTRE reading.
